The Virginia Victim Assistance Network (VVAN) is seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Professional Counselor to join our team to facilitate a Homicide Support Group in the city of Hopewell, Virginia. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality counseling services in a group setting (both virtual and in-person as one schedule allows) addressing a variety of mental health and emotional challenges after losing a loved one due to a homicide. This role requires a strong understanding of various counseling techniques and the ability to work with diverse populations. Experience in grief and trauma is highly recommended. Our mission is to support clients in their grief journey towards mental wellness and personal growth.
Job Duties
The ideal candidate for this position is required to:
– Lead the Homicide Survivor Support Group monthly, weekly, or bi-weekly at a location and or virtually determined by the VVAN Facilitator, Victim/Witness Personnel, and the Homicide Support Group Coordinator (HSSGC).
– Abide by the VVAN Procedures and Protocol document.
– Accept a facilitation fee of $81.25 per meeting, and each meeting should be at least one hour in duration. In addition, facilitators can be paid a monthly planning fee of $81.25 per hour, not to exceed one hour per session. Facilitators will be paid by check or direct deposit. Please allow two weeks for processing and delivery.
– HSG funding is contingent upon grant funding. Modifications, including expansion or discontinuation, may occur.
– The Homicide Support Group (HSG) Coordinator will communicate all changes timely.
– Complete all documentation provided in the Facilitator packet, to include Invoice, mileage forms, and W9 forms.
– Participate by phone, computer, or in-person in future HSG information sharing forums.
– Submit any requests for transportation assistance.
– Communicate any concerns about the group with the HSSGC.
– Have participants fill out Sign-in sheets, Confidentiality forms, and Survey Forms. Survey Forms are to be made available at each meeting.
– Make referrals to the HSSG.
Skills Required
Minimum Position Requirements:
Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or equivalent certification
Specialized training or certification in grief counseling
Extensive experience working with bereaved individuals
Knowledge of various therapeutic modalities relevant to grief counseling
Strong crisis intervention skills
Ability to work independently and within a team
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
State-approved licensure or certification in counseling or therapy
Experience in counseling, particularly with grief-related issues
Strong empathetic and listening skills
Ability to develop and maintain effective therapeutic relationships
High level of emotional intelligence and resilience
