Description

Generation 180 is forming teams of volunteers in communities throughout the country that spread energy awareness and encourage clean energy adoption in their communities. Generation 180 teams are currently focused on helping local K-12 schools go solar. Equipped with the resources from Generation 180’s Solar Schools campaign, volunteer teams are influencing school district leaders and rallying community support for solar.

The National Organizer is responsible for recruiting, engaging, and motivating teams of new people to spread energy awareness and advance clean energy in their communities through Generation 180’s campaigns. The National Organizer will identify and develop volunteers to take on the role of team leaders and build grassroots power and networks.

Generation 180 is seeking a passionate, entrepreneurial person committed to empowering others to make a difference with clean energy adoption. The position entails a significant amount of calling and reaching out to new people and requires a candidate who is outgoing, persistent, personable, highly organized, and determined. The candidate must have excellent written and verbal communications skills.

The role reports directly to the National Outreach Director and is based in our Charlottesville, VA office.

Job Duties

–   Volunteer Recruitment: Developing and implementing strategies to identify new volunteers/community activists across the country.

–   Launching new volunteer teams: Identifying and supporting volunteer team hosts and leaders who will engage other community members to help build a new Generation 180 team in their community. Facilitating conference calls and webinars, identifying and supporting team leaders, and training new teams. Planning and leading team launch events around the country.

–   Supporting existing volunteer teams: Organizing the logistics, content, and inspiration for the monthly conference calls/webinars, joining twice-monthly team leader calls, and preparing action sheets and other materials.

–   Collaborate with National Outreach Director to ensure success of the volunteer teams in achieving results in their communities.

Skills Required

  • Experience with grassroots or community organizing, environmental or political campaigns, volunteer outreach/recruitment strongly preferred. Other relevant experience may include fundraising or sales.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, persuasion, and people skills. Proven ability to engage people and inspire them to act.
  • Passion for Generation180’s mission of informing, educating, and empowering the public to engage in the global energy transition.
  • Self-starter with a strong desire to connect with individuals in communities nationwide and empower people to make a difference.
  • Willingness and ability to travel quarterly to multiple locations per trip to launch and train Generation 180 volunteer teams. Additional travel will include select conferences and outreach events.
  • Flexibility and ability to wear many hats as part of a small, fast-moving team. Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to own tasks outside of your job description. Excellent collaboration skills and positive attitude.
  • High comfort level with digital technology. Experience using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and delivering live virtual presentations is desirable.
