Our client, The Virginia Home (TVH), is seeking a full time Director of Nursing (DON) to provide clinical and administrative leadership to the nursing team to fulfill the organization’s mission, vision and values. Responsibilities include maintaining the highest standards of care, financial management, attracting, maintaining and developing top talent; supervising and training clinical team members. Reports to the COO.

Job Duties
- Leads and supervises staff including an Assistant DON and approximately 80 CNAs, 30 LPNs and 6 RNs. Manages staff with a combined approach of collaboration and accountability against established performance goals.
- Oversees quality of care to residents and responsible for developing and maintaining positive resident and community relationships.
- Overall accountability for providing leadership and administration of day-to-day operations associated with direct patient care activities, nursing practice, and clinical education and development, including continuous improvement of nursing services and staff to meet patients/residents and their family’s needs and expectations.
- Communicates a shared vision for clinical excellence and ensures the realization of high quality and cost-effective health care services that are consistent with best practices and policies, regulatory and other legal requirements.
- Responsible for driving, supporting and modeling a service-oriented clinical culture focused on top of license practice, interprofessional collaboration, employee engagement, quality, patient safety, service excellence, fiscal responsibility, and the overall resident experience.
- Collaborates with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Medical Director and other members of a Leadership Team to drive excellence, including strategic planning, budget preparation, and effective oversight of resource utilization.
- Oversight and management of all related operations in regulations and compliance with certification agencies, local, state and federal regulatory (e.g., Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services).
- Performs additional responsibilities related to the success of TVH, as needed.
Skills Required
- Requires a current, unencumbered license to practice Nursing in the state of Virginia; graduated from an accredited school of nursing, college or university.
- A minimum of five (5) years full-time, recent clinical experience in a supervisory role in a long-term care setting is required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Maintains current BLS/CPR certification.
- Effective and proactive leadership, team communication, facilitation, problem solving, and decision making.
- Skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience and knowledge of various systems and programs (e.g., Point Click Care (PCC), Omni Care and Medicare / Medicaid).
- Evidences the highest level of ethical behavior and practice; able to build relationships and generate trust at every level including among colleagues, staff, residents and families, and Board.
- Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with some special events. This full-time role is not a telecommuting opportunity. Minimal travel.
- All Virginia Home employees must provide verification of TST (tuberculin skin test) as required by state law and are required to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
