Overview:

As a Youth Mentor at the Love No Ego Foundation, you will play a vital role in guiding and supporting young individuals in their personal development. You will work closely with youth in our at-risk society, providing them with the necessary tools, resources, and mentorship to help them navigate the challenges they face and achieve their full potential. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of young people through helping them live with purpose instead of fear, while also contributing to the community’s overall well-being.

Job Duties

Key Responsibilities

– Mentoring: Develop and maintain supportive relationships with assigned youth mentees, serving as a positive role model and advocate.
Individualized Support: Provide personalized guidance and support to youth mentees, addressing their unique needs, challenges, and goals.

– Utilization of LNE’s Four Principles: Helping youth develop the courage to be themselves through instilling spirituality, education, exercise, and community into their daily lives.

– Life Skills Development: Teach essential life skills such as communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict resolution to help mentees thrive in various aspects of their lives.

– Emotional Support: Offer a listening ear, empathy, and emotional support to mentees, helping them cope with stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.

-Community Engagement: Facilitate opportunities for mentees to engage with the community, participate in extracurricular activities, and explore their interests.

– Advocacy: Advocate for mentees’ needs and rights within the community, educational institutions, and other relevant settings.

– Monitoring Progress: Regularly assess mentees’ progress towards their goals, identify areas for improvement, and adjust mentorship strategies accordingly.

– Collaboration: Collaborate with other staff members, volunteers, parents/guardians, and community partners to provide comprehensive support to mentees.

– Documentation: Maintain accurate records of mentorship activities, including progress notes, assessments, and relevant communication.

Skills Required

Empathy: A youth mentor needs to understand and empathize with the challenges and experiences faced by the young individuals they are mentoring. Empathy helps in building trust and rapport, making it easier for mentees to open up and seek guidance.

Patience: Working with youth requires patience, as progress may be gradual and setbacks may occur. A patient mentor can provide consistent support and encouragement, even during difficult times.

Positive Role Model: Mentors should exemplify positive behavior and values that they want to instill in their mentees. Being a positive role model helps in shaping the attitudes and behaviors of young individuals in a constructive manner.

Active Listening: Effective communication is essential for building strong mentor-mentee relationships. Active listening involves not only hearing what the mentee is saying but also understanding their feelings, concerns, and perspectives.

Adaptability: Every mentee is unique, and what works for one may not work for another. A mentor should be adaptable and flexible in their approach, tailoring their strategies to meet the individual needs and preferences of each mentee.

Respect: Respect is fundamental in any mentoring relationship. Mentors should respect the autonomy, dignity, and rights of their mentees, while also setting clear boundaries and expectations.

Encouragement: Encouragement and praise can boost the confidence and self-esteem of mentees, motivating them to strive for personal growth and success. A supportive mentor provides constructive feedback and celebrates the achievements of their mentees.

Trustworthiness: Building trust is essential for the mentor-mentee relationship to thrive. Mentors should be reliable, honest, and trustworthy, maintaining confidentiality and fulfilling their commitments to their mentees.

Resourcefulness: Mentors should be resourceful in connecting mentees with the necessary support services, opportunities, and resources that can help them overcome obstacles and achieve their goals.

Passion for Making a Difference: Above all, a non-profit youth mentor should have a genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of young individuals. Dedication to the mission and values of the organization and a commitment to serving the community are essential attributes for a successful mentor.

Work Schedule

Youth Mentors create their own schedule with the mentees care giver based on the needs of the mentee, and the case hours assigned. Mentors are required to have 1.5 hour long sessions with their mentees.
