Summary: Responsible for planning, preparing, and implementing developmentally appropriate programs and activities. Youth Development Staff are responsible for ensuring the emotional and physical safety of groups of a minimum of 15 members, developing healthy and supporting relationships with all Club members, and modeling academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and citizenship with youth. Youth Development Staff are responsible for delivering the optimal Club experience for all members, focusing on the mission and core values of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia.
Job Duties
- Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Priority Outcomes (Healthy Lifestyles, Academic Success, Good Character & Citizenship) and promotes program participation.
- Facilitate programs and activities indoors and outdoors with a minimum of 15 members ranging from ages 9-11 (4th and 5th grade).
- Provide appropriate supervision by being vigilant of members in program areas, monitoring equipment and supplies
- Set clear boundaries with members by enforcing Club rules and policies and ensuring compliance while fostering an inclusive environment.
- Enforce all safety precautions and ensure that equipment is maintained in an appropriate manner
- Continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members
- Report concerns relating to the members, families, staff or facilities to Unit Director or Lead Program Coordinator
- Maintain positive relationships with members and their parents and/or guardians while creating a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Mediate medium to mild behavior issues with confidence while providing guidance and role modeling.
- Participate in special programs and/or events as requested
- Oversee clean up and ensure a clean area at the end of snack and mealtimes
- Perform other related duties as assigned by management staff
Skills Required
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with young people, parents, and community members
- Ability to motivate youth in a consistent and constructive manner while maintaining a positive environment
- Ability to pass a criminal background check required
- Ability to acquire CPR and First Aid certification required
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday, 2:30pm-6:30pm
