Description

Volunteer and Events Manager

OLLI at UVA has been serving the local Charlottesville area with short courses for active adults for 20 years. OLLI is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that is one of UVA’s affiliated organizations and we are a part of a nationwide network within the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes, including a non-governing center of excellence that supports our work. OLLI at UVA has grown over time thanks to our large pool of passionate volunteer instructors and staff alike. OLLI has successfully adjusted amidst the pandemic to bring over 100 courses online and the Volunteer and Events Manager will be a key part of our team as we continue to pivot and succeed amidst change.

Do you have a passion for working with volunteers?

Our volunteers are paramount to the mission and success of OLLI and we work together as a strong team! The Volunteer and Events manager engages with our dedicated volunteers on various key events through each semester – OLLI has a spring and a fall semester each year. For 20 years now, OLLI has been fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who also receive member benefits for their time. The manager’s role is to engage with, recruit, retain, and creatively recognize our volunteers who assist instructors in the classroom, assist staff with office projects and who also lead some of our local outings. Essentially, our volunteers are an extension of our staff team and they are a key part of OLLI’s good work. We host several fun, engaging events throughout the year, bringing our members together for social networking which allows our members to build friendships that last a lifetime.

Do you enjoy a flexible work schedule?

This position has flexible hours to accommodate the needs of the right candidate. The manager should be available Monday through Friday for at least 20 hours per week during the work day. Telework is available outside of OLLI events that will be hosted in person. We are currently hosting our events online through summer 2021 and we will be doing so in the fall with a mix of in-person if it safe to do so.
