Description

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator (VEC) is the welcoming, energetic first impression of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville (HFHGC). The VEC works effectively to recruit, train, supervise, acknowledge, and retain a solid volunteer base to support the affiliate’s construction, advancement, family services, and administrative efforts. The VEC is tasked with implementing and managing a strong marketing program to include direct marketing and social media. In addition, the coordinator will manage the store website to keep it relevant and up to date. The VEC also strategically develops volunteers as advocates who are able to communicate HFHGC organizational mission, the realities of the affordable housing crisis in Charlottesville, and the impact of HFHI’s work globally.

Job Duties

– Be knowledgeable about Habitat’s mission and convey it effectively.
– Create exceptional experiences for all volunteers from the moment they express interest in HFHGC, during their scheduled service, and beyond.
– Ensure retention of volunteers through productive use of their skills/interests/time.
– Support, recruitment, scheduling and coordinating Habitat Store Volunteers in partnership with the onsite Store Manager as well as facilitating new volunteer orientations, helping to lead special groups and projects at the store.
– Develop consistent volunteer engagement and opportunities for youth aged 12-16.
– Utilize Meta Business Suite, Canva, Photoshop and Constant Contact to update social media, newsletters, listservs, etc.
– Oversee interior signage for the store to ensure effective communication of sales, events and affiliate information through mission board.
– Plan special events for the store to promote sales and bring in new customers/donors.
– Post volunteer opportunities, updates, and recognition on affiliate social media regularly.
– Work closely with Volunteer Program Manager to maintain and accurately input volunteer participation hours.

Skills Required

The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is a results-driven individual with at least 2 years of experience in customer service, hospitality, community outreach, or volunteer engagement. The ideal candidate will hold a high school diploma and will also have/be:

– Commitment to Habitat for Humanity’s mission of service to others
– Knowledge of and/or interest in affordable housing solutions
– Excellent writing and communications skills
– Public speaking experience/comfort
– High level of creative and strategic thinking
– Strong discretion and judgment
– Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement projects and meet deadlines
– Command knowledge of Google Suite
– Demonstrated ability to multi-task, plan, organize, and implement multiple projects and meet deadlines with high quality work
– Professional demeanor and attitude at all times befitting a public representative of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Charlottesville
– Experience with online communications and social media management
– Strong initiative, willingness to work as part of a team as well as independently
– Ability to remain calm and focused in a constantly changing environment
– Experience working for a non-profit preferred, but not mandatory

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
– Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
– Prolonged periods of talking and being on your feet.
– Ability and willingness to travel locally, if/as needed.
– Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

Work Schedule

The scheduled work week for this position is Tuesday – Saturday, 9a – 5:30p with the potential for minor variation(s).
