Description

Computers4Kids (C4K) seeks a Mentor Program Coordinator to serve one year as a VISTA member through the Virginia Mentoring Partnership (VMP). VISTA members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve at C4K. In return for service, the VISTA member will receive federally sponsored benefits and may be eligible for an education award upon completion of service.

Since 2001, C4K has provided a creative and safe out-of-school learning environment where young people from low income communities work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop new skills, and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology. This position represents an extraordinary opportunity for an individual to gain nonprofit capacity-building experience while helping grow an established program.  C4K is a well-respected Charlottesville non-profit organization with a track record for providing high quality, award-winning programming for underserved youth.

C4K is part of The Clubhouse Network, an international community of out-of-school programs established over 20 years ago by the Museum of Science in Boston, MA and the MIT Media Lab. The VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator will oversee the recruitment, training, engagement, support, and retention of group mentors in the Clubhouse @ C4K.

 VISTA Mentor Program Coordinator responsibilities:

  • The VISTA member will develop best practices and protocols that will be unique to Clubhouse @ C4K.
  • Identify, implement, and coordinate a community outreach to increase the number of volunteer mentors.

  • Develop a Clubhouse mentor retention strategy that provides mentor support and recognition.
  • Assist in the development of a program evaluation strategy to include data collection, analysis, interpretation of results, reporting to staff and funding agencies.
  • Participate in weekly standing staff meetings to communicate program status.
  • Creating volunteer program materials
  • Database management and tracking of volunteer statistics
