Description

The Town of Scottsville seeks a talented and skilled Town Clerk. Are you the master of details who keeps it all together? Do you know account balances, filing deadlines, meeting minutes, maintaining records, and who to call for help with anything? The Town of Scottsville needs you. The Town has all the responsibilities of bigger governments –grants, budgets, permits, public hearings, and such –but only one full-time clerk position to help the town council and town administrator keep track of it all. This is a job that offers a great opportunity to make a difference in a community that’s going places!

Preferred qualifications: College coursework in accounting and business administration, experience in similar small office teams, experience in government or in business or nonprofits involved in local government, demonstrated skills in QuickBooks, experience supporting governing boards and committees.

Perks: Salary range $38,000 to $45,000 depending on qualifications. VRS state pension. Full medical benefits with generous plan structure. Holidays, sick, and vacation leave. Some flexibility in scheduling with partial tele-work options.

Skills Required

Thorough knowledge of the functions and organization of the municipal government
Thorough knowledge of the rules of order as related to public hearings
Thorough knowledge of the Town’s Charter and Code
Thorough knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment
Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping terminology and methods
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices and their application to a wide variety of accounting transactions
ability to maintain financial records and to prepare financial reports accurately
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing
Ability to operate standard office equipment, computers, and accounting software
Ability to research and prepare reports
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, associates and the general public.
