Description

The Habitat Store is currently seeking a full-time Store Manager to assist with retail operations and personnel management. The Store Manager is primarily responsible for all active retail operations; to include managing the sales floor, maintaining a clean and safe facility, and ensuring that all sales and donation-receiving activities run smoothly and efficiently, as well as providing superior customer service to all customers and donors. The Store Manager also must provide strong personnel management to ensure that all paid and volunteer personnel are providing exceptional customer service.

Job Duties

  • Supervise daily Habitat Store operations
  • Evaluate condition/acceptability of incoming donations
  • Coordinate the flow of incoming materials to the Store
  • Price all materials to be sold in a timely manner
  • Develop pricing guidelines (with Operations Manager)
  • Check accuracy of all cash and credit transactions, as well as bank deposits
  • Display merchandise in a manner that maximizes sales
  • Ensure that all areas of the Store/offices/warehouse are clean and safe
  • Ensure adequate and friendly personnel presence on sales floor at all times to provide personal customer service and drive sales
  • Perform donation pickups on occasion as needed
  • Supervise Store personnel and volunteers to ensure that all tasks are performed thoroughly and efficiently
  • Ensure that all safety procedures are adhered to by staff and volunteers and that we present the safest possible environment for customers, donors, and personnel
  • Be knowledgeable about Habitat’s mission and effectively represent it to donors and customers
  • Responsible for the hiring, development and success of the Warehouse Coordinator, Cashier and Retail Associate positions
  • Look for professional development opportunities for Store staff
  • Participate in the monthly staff meeting by leading topics and trainings
  • Provide direction to Volunteer Coordinator on all necessary training to ensure success of both Store personnel and volunteers
  • Support the Operations Manager in soliciting for donations throughout Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville
  • Execute monthly/yearly inventory at the direction of the Operations Manager
  • Work to continually improve the overall appearance of our facility and maximize our efficiency
  • Coordinate other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager

Skills Required

  • Proven experience in retail management; non-profit management experience is preferable
  • Strong background in sales
  • Working knowledge of building materials, supplies and tools preferred
  • Basic knowledge of furniture a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise and direct staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, plan, organize, and implement multiple projects and meet deadlines with high quality work
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Command knowledge of Word, Publisher, Excel, Outlook and Google
  • Sensitivity to the needs of people from multiple cultures and backgrounds
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a constantly changing environment
  • Proven strategic thinking capability
  • Ability to learn quickly and take initiative with limited direction
  • Professional appearance at all times befitting the public face of Habitat
  • Positive, “can do” personality
  • Flexibility to work weekends and occasional nights

  • Ability to lift 75-100 lbs consistently and be on feet for long periods of time in extreme temperatures

Work Schedule

Full-time, Saturdays and occasional nights (85% on sales floor, 15% off sales floor)
