Description

We are seeking a Staff Accountant for our client project: HOMES a growing, non-profit organization that uses an all-encompassing approach to housing challenging the misconceptions of what defines affordable housing through the production and preservation of high-quality affordable homes, large-scale home repairs, and improved accessibility and energy efficiency for existing homes. This role reports to the CFO.

The organization budget is approximately $13M with about 45 employees located in Richmond, VA, with easy access on and off the Midlothian Turnpike and Chippenham Parkway. Go to www.projecthomes.org to learn more!

Job Duties

Summary of Job Responsibilities and Requirements                            

  • Works independently on routine and assigned bookkeeping and accounting tasks as directed by the CFO.
  • Compiles all accounts payables and receivables, recording transactions and accruals, and preparing weekly payments of invoices.
  • Performs collaboratively with and in support of other services offered by project:HOMES.
  • Leverages accounting software and IT systems to effectively perform duties.
  • Delivers with timeliness, accuracy, completeness, and effectively, to the highest ethical standards, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for non-profit entities and in accordance with the organization’s mission, values, and universal standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills Required

Key Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

  • Minimum Associate’s degree in related area strongly preferred; Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work.
  • Minimum two years of accounting or bookkeeping experience to include, but not limited to: double-entry accounting (debits, credits), and reconciliations; understands the chart of accounts, trial balance, and balance sheet.
  • Skilled with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, Teams or Zoom teleconferencing platforms as well as experience with standard office equipment.
  • Experience in non-profit and / or grant accounting a plus
  • Experience with proprietary software such as Sage 100/MAS 90 preferred.
  • Demonstrates experience in knowledge of accounting theory and practices for non-profits desirable.
  • Promotes and adheres to company’s mission, vision and values, policies and applicable laws in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Represents the organization in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel.
  • Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 7AM to 5PM. Potential for some teleworking. Minimal overtime.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment background screening.
