A grant-funded opportunity to work up to 10 hours per week to help connect SNAP clients to fresh, local food at the Farmers Market at Ix.  This job involves interacting with people, cultures, food, and small businesses both at the market and in community and neighborhood organizations.  The goal of the work is to inform more of the community about the opportunities to access nutritious food at the market with SNAP and Virginia Fresh Match. 

Job Duties

The SNAP Community Coordinator will promote the markets’ nutrition access programs to eligible communities and individuals, through communications with SNAP enrollees, neighborhood and community leaders, and food-oriented/ health organizations.   At the market, the SNAP coordinator will be able to provide information about nutrition access programs to customers and staff. 

The SNAP Community coordinator will work with market staff to develop outreach plans, collect data, and provide insight and solutions into challenges that prevent individuals from accessing the program or other issues. The coordinator will also participate in the monthly Zoom call with state and regional Virginia Fresh Match to provide local feedback and share best practices. 

Skills Required

Resources and skills needed include:

  •     Communications
  •     Self-motivated, self-starter
  •     Use of the payment processor to conduct transactions (will train)
  •     Ability to keep detailed records and write reports
  •     Use of Google Suite/Google Workspace tools
  •     Comfortable and professional with large crowds and personal interaction
  •     Ability to work in all season’s weather
  •     Familiarity with SNAP (food stamps)
  •     Access to a computer
  •     Access to transportation

Work Schedule
