Description

We are looking for an energetic and committed shift supervisor to join our Day Shelter team. Shift supervisors oversee the day shelter which (1) provides basic resources–respite, meals, showers, laundry, physical mailing address, and computer/phone access–for those in extreme need and crisis and (2) functions as the front door to housing services and programming.

The Haven is a multi-resource day shelter in downtown Charlottesville, VA. We offer a welcoming and safe space to anyone in need, and we’re open every morning, 365 days a year. Our mission is to end homelessness in the greater Charlottesville community. Motivated by radical hospitality, we strive to be the point of entry for people seeking stable housing. We open the doors wide for any and everyone, no matter their circumstances.

Job Duties

  • Support & supervise guests during hours of operation
  • Support and direct volunteers in their roles and contact with Haven guests
  • Maintain guest, volunteer, and staff safety at all times
  • Problem solve issues as they arise, de-escalate situations and persons
  • Open and close the building as scheduled and support janitorial staff, as needed
  • Engage in basic outreach with guests, especially those new to The Haven
  • Gather information about guests through basic screening, in order to refer to Intake
  • Support guests in getting connected to community and mainstream resources
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of procedures and protocols necessary to operating The Haven

  • Reliable, detail-oriented and organized
  • Physical stamina – for example, carrying storage and standing for long periods
  • Strong support system and ability to process stress

Work Schedule

Monday – Sunday / Mornings: 6:30am – 12:30pm;  Afternoons: 12:30pm – 5:15pm
