The Charlottesville Department of Social Services is seeking qualified candidates to join our team for the position of Senior Social Services Assistant who are highly motivated and who strive for success by demonstrating Charlottesville’s Core Values of Leadership, Trust, Creativity, Respect, and Excellence.

The starting amount will be between $16.51 and $25.59 an hour. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. The Senior Social Services Assistant is a critical support position to the daily operations of the Department of Social Services. This position performs complex technical, administrative, and customer service support functions related to the programs and services administered by the department. This position advises, trains, provides guidance to Social Services Assistants (SSA), Customer Service Representatives (CSR) /front desk staff, and exercises general supervision in the absence of the Supervisor. This position requires a broad knowledge of agency standards, policies, and functions and extensive contact with internal and external customers.

Skills Required

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimally requires a high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two years of clerical or administrative support work experience is required. (College Degree in related field will serve towards the minimum experience requirement.)
    Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia is required by employment start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An Associate’s degree or certificate in human services is preferred.
  • Preference for two years of work experience in a Virginia social services agency.
