This Senior Family Services Specialist with the City of Charlottesville coordinates and facilitates family partnership meetings. These meetings are required by the state of Virginia. These meetings are used to engage families in developing plans and making decisions regarding the safety of their children who are involved in the child welfare system.

Performs difficult professional work in the support and assistance of agency clients with personal, social, health and economic needs; Primarily and most frequently the work done here is performed independently, with diverse functional areas and more specialization and ability to train others; does related work as required.

Skills Required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major work in social work, psychology, health or related field is required.
  • Minimum of three years’ social work knowledge and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia or qualified and able to obtain a valid VA driver’s license prior to starting the position.
  • Possession of all requirements for entry level as specified by the Virginia Department of Social Services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • Preference for experience in facilitation and/or mediation.
