Description

United Way of Greater Charlottesville is seeking a School Readiness Manager to serve as the lead staff for its early education work, including its responsibilities as a partner in the statewide Smart Beginnings network. This position implements and monitors progress against strategies to make a measurable impact in key early education indicators in the community. He/she assists the Vice President of Community Impact in staffing the Early Education Task Force, the Children’s Data Consortium, and serves as the director of the Smart Beginnings of Greater Charlottesville. The School Readiness Manager will be responsible for overall school readiness budget development, grant development/reporting/compliance, outcomes monitoring, and overall administrative duties including minutes. The School Readiness Manager will work collaboratively with community partners to plan and implement activities to raise awareness of the value of early childhood investments and achieve shared goals along the education continuum. The position will also support the School Readiness Impact Team as requested and will serve as the agency’s primary representative in various early education projects. The School Readiness Manager will be responsible for implementing the United Way’s diversity/equity/inclusion plan throughout all facets of the early education work undertaken by the organization, and in engaging partners, families and the community to ensure its success.

Job Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing the United Way’s responsibilities associated with the Early Education Task Force, including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas and materials, preparing meeting minutes and maintaining Task Force files and documents. Assisting the Task Force Chair and Vice-Chair and partners in undertaking the work plan in the community.
  • Assisting the Vice President of Community Impact with managing the work of the Children’s Data Consortium, including collaborating with partners and consultants to accomplish workplan components. Prepares Tableau dashboards and storyboards to demonstrate project outcomes, and as part of a routine data inventory.
  • Will gather and use relevant data to promote strategy development, make decisions, and drive for results. Uses evaluation data to build support for the work.
  • Understand key measures of success in early education and drives processes to achieve those results. Establishes measurable goals in line with desired outcomes and tracks results. Evaluates results and strives to continuously improve outcomes for the community.
  • Drives support for the development and implementation of programs that improve school readiness in the community.
  • Works closely with UWGC marketing to develop and communicate compelling messages to collaborating partners and to the larger community utilizing various media.
  • Maintains discretion and confidentiality.
  • Undertakes work in a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm.

 

Skills Required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • Must have excellent communication and writing skills
  • Prefer prior experience working in early education programs/systems and with vulnerable families with children ages 0-4
  • Research or formal research/data science experience/education not required but a plus
  • Advanced Excel and Access skills. Must learn Tableau.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Must use tact and courtesy in dealing with staff, clients, volunteers, partners, board members, and visitors
  • Must be able to maintain absolute confidentiality to maintain the integrity of work, particularly as related to data

 

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday, 8:30-5 with one hour lunch. Will occasionally be required to participate in evening and weekend events, as well as occasional out-of-town travel but within state.
