The preferred hiring range for this position is between $19.42 – $27.91 hourly ($40,394.46 – $58,052.80 Annually.) Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position which provides excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City’s retirement options, gym membership reimbursement, and continuing education/training opportunities.

- The City of Charlottesville manages its own retirement system and does not participate in VRS, however the City has a Portability Agreement with VRS and there are certain provisions that must be met. For questions pertaining to the Portability Agreement, please contact the City’s Benefits Administrator at 434-970-3462.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, public administration or closely related field.
- Requires a minimum of three (3) years of professional administrative support and/or customer service experience including a minimum of one (1) year in a professional office environment required.
Special Requirements:
- Required to obtain Department of State Passport Acceptance Agent Certification within initial six (6) month probationary period;
- Required to obtain Treasurer’s Association of Virginia Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer Certification (two-year initial certification; rolling four-year recertification) within first two (2) years of employment;
- Required to obtain Virginia Department of Taxation Integrated Revenue Management System (IRMS) Authorized User Certification within initial six (6) month probationary period.
- Required to obtain certificate of compliance with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles within one (1) month of hire.
- Ability to comply with annual requirements for Policy and Procedure Awareness for Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles.

Job Duties
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of collections, bankruptcy, accounts receivable, general accounting principles, customer service, quality and assurance, state/ local laws, Microsoft Office programs, use of verification background software. Skilled in the use of the computer and data entry, ability to learn numerous agency systems and software. Ability to communicate effectively (both oral and written), perform independent critical decision making, multi- task, work with third party sources, prepare statistical and mathematical reports. General knowledge of bankruptcy laws. Ability to learn and interface with multiple departmental software programs. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities. Attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work as a team member.
