LEAP is Hiring! Seeking Residential Efficiency Retrofit Technician

Introduction

The Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) is a community non-profit organization that facilitates the adoption of clean energy technology, primarily via energy-efficiency improvements in existing homes and buildings as well as solar power community campaigns. Our primary activities are assessing buildings of all kinds, providing recommendations for efficiency improvements, coordinating access to contractors and utility and government rebates, and promoting solar power as applicable. LEAP’s headquarters office is located near downtown Charlottesville.

Overview

The Local Energy Alliance Program is seeking applications for full-time Residential Efficiency Retrofit Technicians. Primary responsibilities include installing insulation using various techniques and materials (roll, sheeting, spray, blown, or other methods), targeted air sealing of homes from both the inside and outside the house, duct sealing, and other energy efficiency improvements. Work will be based out of central Charlottesville and travel into surrounding counties and Northern Virginia using a company vehicle.

Job Duties

  • Complete weatherization retrofit jobs for residential homeowners
  • Maintain an organized and clean work vehicle
  • Record your time through an online clock in/out system, reporting any issues to the Operations Manager
  • Make sure that retrofit jobs have all the supplies and tools needed for completion from the warehouse
  • Use the correct PPE when on a jobsite
  • Arrive to work on time

 

Skills Required

  • Familiarity with residential construction techniques
  • Willingness to learn Weatherization Assistance Program Standard Work Specifications, HVAC and other applicable building codes, and OSHA Health and Safety procedures
  • Ability to proficiently use and properly maintain tools and equipment and materials required for duties described
  • Excellent punctuality 
  • Ability to communicate courteously and professionally with clients and homeowners
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and driving record
  • Drive a work vehicle/truck to job sites
  • Willingness to work in sometimes tight crawl spaces or attics, year-round
  • Attention to detail and patience to execute the job properly

Preferred Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent, but not required
  • Field experience in construction, carpentry, or other trade
  • Mechanical skills or engine repair experience

Work Schedule

Monday – Friday

Hours may range due to travel time to job sites.  This is a full-time hourly position and eligible for overtime pay.
