Description

Founded in 1984, the Library of Virginia Foundation supports the Library of Virginia and its
mission by raising private financial support, managing its endowment, and producing
programming that brings Virginia’s history and culture to life. The Foundation manages two retail
locations: the Virginia Shop located within the Library of Virginia and an additional retail location
within the Virginia State Capitol Complex. The Retail Sales and Operations Manager will provide
pivotal insight and direction into the following strategic activities for both locations:

1. Help increase the visibility of the Library and the Virginia Shop as a world-class resource
and destination.
2. Develop an overall retail strategy that makes the Virginia Shop the primary retail source
for Virginia-themed and Virginia-made products.
3. Proactively source and market products that the visiting public highly desires.
4. Ensure a customer-focused buying experience that continually attracts all Library of
Virginia visitors.

This position will report to the Director of Finance and Operations and work closely
with the Executive Director to meet the retail goals of the Foundation.

Job Duties

1. Works with the Director of Finance and Operations and the Executive Director
to generate budget, identify sales goals/targets, and report financial progress.
2. Manages shop employees, including hiring, coaching, performance evaluation,
scheduling and assigning duties and responsibilities.
3. Identifies, procures, and markets the Virginia Shop inventory ensuring effective
and profitable inventory management.
4. Oversees and maintains the Virginia Shop’s online store.
5. Works closely with the Library’s Marketing and Social Media teams to promote
retail operations through advertising and social media.

Skills Required

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred, but not
required.
2. Candidate must have at least two years’ experience managing retail industry
operation.
3. Knowledge of Square online platform and register.
4. Base social media management knowledge and experience.
5. Experience in a museum or cultural site gift shop preferred.
Hiring is contingent on a successful background check.

Compensation Package Includes:
1. Starting salary of $45,000-55,000.
