Description

Rapid Re-housing (RRH) is a primary solution for ending homelessness that provides short-term rental assistance and services to Clients. As the Rapid Re-housing Advocate, you will serve as an ally and guide for Clients on their paths towards exiting homelessness. You will establish rapport and trust with Clients, providing support in setting and achieving their self-determined goals. You will bring organization and time management skills to the position, and be comfortable learning new computer software. You will demonstrate an enthusiastic commitment to the values of trauma-informed care and principles of the Housing First model, as well as embody the ideal of radical hospitality for all.

Job Duties

Consistently embody the guiding values of The Haven when interacting with human beings
  • Respond to human beings with radical hospitality, unconditional positive regard, and a commitment to the principles of the Housing First and Harm Reduction models
  • Practice and promote antiracist, trauma-informed, person-centered, and strengths-based responses to human beings
With Clients, locate, identify, and obtain housing
  • Research suitable properties, property managers, etc. using online and other resources (i.e. Zillow)
  • Maintain relationships with property managers and landlords who have previously rented to RRH clients
  • Share contact information and rental opportunities with Clients and pursue them together
Use SOAR process for applicable RRH Clients
  • Obtain SOAR certification (SSDI, Outreach, Access, Recovery)
  • Correctly identify eligible Clients
  • Complete application process in a timely manner
Record and update Client information in Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
  • Complete HMIS training and maintain up-to-date HMIS skills
  • Update Client notes within 48 hours of a call, meeting, or other interaction
  • Upload Client documents
RRH administration
  • Conduct RRH enrollment meetings
  • Maintain Client documentation
  • Coordinate RRH rent payments with Administration team
  • Communicate clearly with Client about when RRH rental support will conclude
  • Track and maintain record of RRH subsidy amount and duration
RRH Client guidance, advocacy, and support
  • Work with Clients to create housing stability plans with action steps both for the Client and Advocate, ultimately helping Clients move towards housing stability
  • Assess Client’s financial, health, and other unique needs and match them with housing that meets those needs
  • Establish transparent, collaborative, empathetic, and trusting relationships with Clients to promote and support a positive housing stability outcome (Progressive Engagement)
  • Refer Client to other community resources when needed and advocate on the behalf for eligible services and housing opportunities, following up to ensure referrals were completed
  • Assist Client with initial move-in needs, including coordination with the Housing2Home Art Coordinator
  • Complete quality assurance surveys with Clients during and after their interaction with the RRH program
Continuum of Care (community partners) engagement
  • Attend assigned Continuum of Care and other community meetings to discuss and troubleshoot issues regarding housing stability
  • Conduct ongoing outreach to community partners to establish and foster a network of resources, supports, and services to assist with obtaining and maintaining stable housing
Departmental collaboration and reporting
  • Provide regular updates and Client reports to supervisor, including weekly check-ins
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of RRH procedures and protocols
  • Attend department and other internal meetings
  • Other duties as assigned that are necessary to support The Haven’s housing programs
Participate in and pursue professional development opportunities
  • Attend training and conferences as assigned
  • Pursue professional development opportunities relevant to The Haven’s mission

Skills Required

  • Client advocacy experience a plus
  • Compassion for all people, especially those in crisis
  • Ability to provide clear direction, instruction, and feedback to Clients and colleagues
  • Understanding of personal/professional boundaries and self-care practices and ability to consistently implement them
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to improvise and adapt to changing circumstances
  • Comfortable with computers and able to learn new software programs
  • Reliable, punctual, detail-oriented, and organized
  • Access to reliable transportation
