Description

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Program Director (PD) oversees the organization’s programs and ensures programs are fulfilling the organization’s mission and vision. The PD ensures program staff are supported and programs are operating on budget. The position accomplishes this through a collaborative and constructive approach, guided by the objectives of the organization.  As a neighborhood-based nonprofit, Abundant Life’s mission is to demonstrate God’s love through holistic community development in the Prospect neighborhood—a diverse, low-income area of approximately 400 households.  Through a wide array of community partnerships (churches, agencies, businesses, schools, residents, etc.), Abundant Life offers a range of resident-driven programs that includes academic tutoring, bible studies, mentoring, and recreation for grades K-12, and a personal finance program for adults.  The Program Director will participate in this work through program development and team management.

Job Duties

Leadership;

  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management to the organization’s programs that reflects the adopted mission and core values of Abundant Life
  • Act as team leader for all program staff and volunteers
  • Lead regularly scheduled program staff meetings
  • Conduct annual evaluations of program staff

 Team Management and Development:

  • Ensure training of program staff and volunteers
  • Establish professional development plans for all program staff to strengthen their skills and knowledge in service of programs
  • Oversee volunteer recruitment and retention process

Program Operational Management:     

  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are created, communicated, and followed
  • Ensure programs have appropriate evaluative measurements and objectives, which are regularly revisited and adapted
  • Ensure programmatic practices reflect current best practices
  • Ensure that programs are equipped with sufficient staff and volunteers
  • Ensure that programs are staying within budget
  • Communicate yearly budget needs to ED in advance of November pro forma budget draft
  • Oversee development of any potential new programs

Skills Required

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience with nonprofit program implementation
  • Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, and selecting and successfully operationalizing innovative programs
  • Experience working with staff to develop and implement program evaluation systems
  • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, and retaining individuals and teams
  • Strong project management skills, including complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Proficiency in using technology as a management reporting tool
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details
  • Demonstrated history of thoughtfully applying faith through their vocation
  • Personal qualities of integrity, dependability, and a commitment to and passion for Abundant Life’s mission
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Christian Community Development principles
