The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia seeks a Program and Communications Manager to support two programs, the Global Religion Lab and the Religion, Race, and Democracy Lab, by managing programming and communications.
The Global Religion Lab and the Religion, Race, and Democracy Lab operate like start-ups within the University of Virginia. The Labs promotes faculty and student research, with an emphasis on public engagement through audio-production and robust web resources.
The position works independently but in coordination with the faculty co-directors of the two Labs to develop and manage the Labs’ programs, including communications. More specifically, the position is responsible for project management, fiscal administration, communications, grants administration, event planning, and other such administrative functions. The position is further responsible for a broad range of professional communications activities, which include writing, editing, producing multimedia, arranging events, maintaining a social media presence, creating and managing website content, generating promotional pieces, managing promotion and marketing.
The successful candidate will be committed to the liberal arts and the humanities; an expert communicator, with demonstrated skills in team building and collaboration, cultivating relationships with partner faculty, and in navigating complex internal and external relationships. A Bachelor’s Degree that has an emphasis on communications and writing broadly conceived is preferred.
The Program and Communications Manager is a one-year position with the possibility of an additional extension of one year and is a restricted position and extension is contingent upon the continued availability of funding.

Skills Required
Administrative office support that has strong basis in fiscal and/or communication support; project management support.
