Description

The Monroe Institute, a leading education and nonprofit organization based in Central Virginia, is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral Research Associate position in the fields of neuroscience and parapsychology. The position will involve working on research projects seeking to quantify the effects of audio stimulation on various aspects of brain and body functioning ranging from mechanistic event-related potentials in EEG to expanded states of consciousness and paranormal events.

The ideal candidate will possess significant science knowledge using advanced techniques in neuroscience, psychology and quantitative data analysis, with an understanding of research methodology including study design, IRB protocol review, study implementation, data collection, data analysis and the write up of results. There will be opportunity for publication of papers in peer-reviewed journals and for presentations at conferences.

The successful applicant should be open-minded and interested in researching unusual human abilities, and able to work well with groups in a team setting. Good command of written and spoken English is essential.

Minimum requirement for the position: PhD or equivalent degree in neuroscience, psychology, engineering or a related discipline.

Other skills and knowledge desired:

• The successful applicant must be able to work with people who are engaging in activities involving subjective state reporting within the environment of an experimental protocol. A background in parapsychology is preferred, but if the applicant is highly motivated and quick to learn, the position is a unique opportunity to acquire expertise in the frontiers of consciousness research beyond the materialist paradigm.

• Technical knowledge with Matlab (and EEGlab) and the ability to program or modify analysis script is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in EEG data acquisition and analysis.

• Statistical analysis skills.

This is a one-year, full-time position, but may be renewed for up to two years based on funding and satisfactory performance. Position reports to Research Coordinator and Executive Director. Monthly written progress reports are required.

To apply, email your Cover Letter that clearly summarizes your interests and background in research, CV/Resume, three references (with name, email, phone), and 2-3 writing examples:  ResearchPosition@monroeinstitute.org

No Phone Calls Please.

The position will remain open until the appropriate candidate is identified.

The Monroe Institute is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Women, men, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
