The Literacy Council of Madison County Is Hiring!

Part-time position open for Executive Director at

Literacy Council of Madison County.

Job Duties

  1. Day-to-Day Operations and Programs
    1. Maintain an appropriate schedule of regular business hours.
    2. Oversee the facility.
    3. Recruit and monitor tutors, volunteers, and others, as needed.
    4. Work with Officers of the Board to interview, train, and evaluate volunteers. Oversee transitions between volunteers.
    5. Monitor intake of learners and assure appropriate testing/retesting and assignments with tutors.
    6. Maintain materials, supplies, and teaching resources (purchasing as needed.)
    7. Maintain a balanced budget through communication with the Treasurer prior to major purchases.
    8. Assure that the Facebook page and website are up-to-date.
  2. Recordkeeping
    1. Maintain archives that recognize the Council’s history.
    2. Maintain records of Council meetings: minutes of board and membership meetings, financial reports, other documents presented for action or information.
    3. Maintain records of donors, funding sources, and grantors.

Prepare reports as requested, internally or externally

Skills Required

  1. Overall Responsibilities
    1. Collaborate with the Board of Directors to identify, create, and implement plans for achieving the Literacy Council’s mission.
    2. Promote transparency and collaboration throughout the Council.
    3. Attend meetings of membership, Board, and committees of the Council.
    4. Develop partnerships within the community to promote the Council’s visibility, publicize its mission, and look for funding opportunities.
    5. Join with President to serve as a liaison with PRACEP, CNE, ProLiteracy, Northern Piedmont Community Foundation, as appropriate.

Work Schedule

4-5 days a week – 3-4 hours per day

    1. Develop and supervise a fundraising plan.
    2. Seek funding sources, such as grants or corporate donations.
    3. Write grant applications.
    4. Furnish required progress reports to granting agencies.
