Outreach Education Manager

The Virginia Discovery Museum Outreach Education Manager (OEM) oversees all aspects of externally facing programming and events sponsored by the museum.  The OEM works to ensure that VDM’s mission is represented in its programs, events and exhibits. The OEM serves as a point of contact for community partnerships and works to maintain VDM’s presence as an educational destination in Charlottesville.

This full-time hire works 40 hours a week, Tuesday-Saturday 9:15-5:15 pm (Between October-April, Sunday hours are needed). The ideal candidate must be outgoing and enthusiastic and enjoy working with children and families.

Programs and Education:

• Coordinates VDM’s volunteer programs, including VDM’s Museum Teen Intern Program and VDM’s Youth Advisory Board
• Designs and implements VDM’s birthday parties and Event Rentals with Operations Director
• Manages and facilitates VDM’s relationships with community agencies and non-profits
• Manages, markets and executes VDM’s StarLab program
• Oversees VDM’s participation in community events and festivals
• Facilitates the museum’s summer camps, working with VDM’s External & Internal Education Managers
• Organizes VDM’s Meet Me on Main Street events
• Plans and schedules VDM Pop-Up Programming
• Coordinates VDM’s participation in community fundraising opportunities
• Promotes VDM’s special programs on radio, television and Facebook
• Works with exhibits staff to develop educational, interactive exhibits

Operations/Administrative:

• Assists in gallery opening, closing, and maintenance.
• Assists with grant writing as it pertains to programs and educational goals.
• Helps with front desk staffing, as needed.

Requirements:

Candidates must have a strong educational background (education degree preferred) and at least 2-3 years working in education, either in a classroom setting or in program management.
