Community Outreach Music Teacher

10 hours/ week
The Front Porch seeks a music teacher for our Roots and Wings Program to offer general music education instruction in Charlottesville. Roots and Wings is dedicated to inspiring students through music, and works primarily with at risk and vulnerable elementary and middle schoolers. Specific programs are designed according to student interest. To date we have offered singing, movement, basic instrument instruction, and songwriting. We are also planning a program that will offer practice support and music mentorship on band or orchestra instruments. Ages of groups vary from elementary to middle. Teaching times are usually in the afternoon between 3 and 6 pm; music mentorship slots could happen during the school day.

Skills Required
Qualifications:
Experience working with children. Sincere interest in working with children from vulnerable and at-risk populations.
Professional music and/ or education experience.
Strong foundation in music fundamentals; preferably a multi-instrumentalist.
Ability to sightread basic and intermediate sheet music.
