Description
The UVA Department of Drama seeks applicants for the position of Managing Director of the Heritage Theatre Festival (HTF). This twelve-month position oversees planning and implementation of the administration and finances for the professional summer theatre at the University of Virginia. Each year, Heritage Theatre Festival presents an annual summer festival of musicals, classic works, and new plays for our local Charlottesville, Albemarle, and UVA communities. Job Duties
The Managing Director is responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of the administration and finances for the theatre. This includes but is not limited to the following: working with HTF Artistic Director to manage revenue and expenditures as well as long-term fiscal planning and accountability; managing the search and hiring of seasonal personnel; ensuring that federal, state, and UVA procedures are followed in all activities of the festival; working with UVA development staff to implement and support fundraising efforts (individual, corporate, and in-kind); spearheading the theater’s marketing plan; overseeing Box Office and Front of House operations; and working with HTF Artistic Director to facilitate an environment in which employees, volunteers, and students can perform effectively and efficiently.
Skills Required
Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree with one year of experience working in General Management or Theatre Administration, with preference given to candidates with a Master’s degree in a relevant field or with four to seven years of experience working in theatre management.
Ideal candidates will also be excellent problem solvers who are able to deal with competing priorities, communicate information, and respond to questions from a diverse audience that includes managers, clients, and the public effectively and in a timely manner.
Work Schedule
This position does require the ability to work On Grounds in Charlottesville, VA during the summer season (June – August). Depending on the work being performed and the incumbent’s performance, a hybrid or telework environment may be available.
