Maker Corps Member

Description

Computers4Kids (C4K) seeks a part-time Maker Corps Member for summer 2016. The Maker Education Initiative (MakerEd.org) was established to create more opportunities for all youth to develop confidence, creativity, and interest in science, technology, engineering, math, art, and learning as a whole through “making”– any activity that uses an element of creative skills to make or design something on your own. This position represents an extraordinary opportunity for an individual to shape and grow an undeveloped area of programming within a well-respected Charlottesville non-profit organization with an established track record of providing high quality programming for youth.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Establish and implement a making program
• Assist C4K members, mentors, and staff in the creation of new maker experiences
• Facilitate interactive making explorations for youth and families
• Participate in Maker Corps Member Trainings
• Engage in an online community and small group meetings to foster creativity and camaraderie among fellow makers
• Contribute towards a shared body of work including: photos, blog entries, written reflections, and project write-ups
• Participate fully in evaluation efforts to collect data about the summer program
• Represent the Maker Education Initiative and C4K in a positive manner via attitude, communications and enthusiasm
• Perform other duties as assigned

Skills Required

IDEAL CANDIDATES WILL POSSESS:

• Interest in creativity, DIY art and science projects, and making things
• Excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills
• The ability to engage effectively with youth, adults, and C4K staff
• Passion for educating
• Awareness and sensitivity in interacting with diverse populations

Work Schedule

This position is part-time, Monday –Friday, 20 hours per week, afternoons and occasional evening hours, from June–August 2016.
