Support the Charlottesville Department of Utilities in fulfilling its service to provide efficient and safe utilities to all in our community. The Water/Wastewater Operations of the department is seeking a qualified candidate to join our team as a Maintenance Crew Supervisor II who is highly motivated and who strives for success by demonstrating Charlottesville’s Core Values of Leadership, Trust, Creativity, Respect, and Excellence.

This position performs difficult skilled and responsible technical work supervising, inspecting and participating in the work of a maintenance, repair or construction crew of utility installations, specifically wastewater/water lines. Work is performed under regular supervision. Supervision is exercised over an assigned work crew of semi-skilled workers and operators and/or contractors. Subject to recall or extended work day due to natural disaster or emergencies.

The preferred hiring amount for this position is between $25.90 – $31.21 an hour ($53,872.00 – $64,916.80 Annually). Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, non-exempt, position which provides excellent benefits including 13 paid holidays plus 1 floating holiday, paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance options with employer contribution, employer-paid life insurance, City’s retirement options, gym membership reimbursement (up to $34 a month), tuition reimbursement (up to $3,000 per fiscal year), and continuing education/training opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or GED (one year of work experience may substitute for one year of education, up to a maximum two years substitution)
  • Minimum of (3) three years of experience in skilled maintenance repair, installation or construction work related to the area assigned;
  • Requires the ability to obtain a CDL by employment start date or within (6) six months of hire;

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference for a minimum of one (1) years in a supervisory position.
