Description
The Lead Coach plays a vital role in delivering First Tee Virginia Blue Ridge’s golf and life skills programming. This part-time, seasonal role focuses on creating a positive, inclusive, and safe learning environment for youth participants. Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Lead Coach leads sessions, mentors youth, and collaborates with assistant coaches and volunteers to ensure high-quality program delivery.
Job Duties
· Lead golf and life skills sessions using the First Tee curriculum.
· Ensure participant safety by adhering to all safety protocols.
· Serve as a mentor and positive role model to youth participants.
· Apply best practices in coaching and classroom management.
· Collaborate with the Program Team to develop and implement lesson plans.
· Communicate effectively with parents, volunteers, and staff regarding updates and progress.
· Maintain accurate class records, including attendance and participant progress.
· Assist in identifying youth eligible for local, regional, or national First Tee opportunities.
· Oversee equipment setup, cleanup, and maintain inventory.
· Attend and support quarterly training sessions and monthly gamification days.
· Stay actively engaged in First Tee Coach Training programs.
Skills Required
· Background in education and classroom management is highly valued.
· Passion for youth development and First Tee’s mission.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Basic golf knowledge and the ability to engage youth of all skill levels.
· Team-oriented with solid time management and organizational skills.
· Open to receiving and providing constructive feedback.
· PGA, LPGA, or other formal golf instruction or coaching credentials are preferred and will be considered when determining the starting compensation level.

Advancement through the First Tee compensation structure is based on the successful completion of designated First Tee Level Trainings. Pay rate adjustments correspond with each completed training level and are contingent upon full compliance with Sport80 requirements and all mandatory training modules.
Training/Compliance Includes:

· Sport80 (SafeSport) compliance
· ACT (Assistant Coach Training)
· Pre-level training
· Level attendance and post-level evaluations
First Tee will cover PGA membership dues for eligible staff.
