Are you a social scientist or experienced program provider interested in making a positive impact in the community and in the lives of children and families in Charlottesville? Help the Department of Human Services deliver on its vision to be one community filled with opportunity by serving as the community’s premier provider in meeting the therapeutic needs of youth and families, supporting the community’s efforts to improve equity, and address poverty and its impacts.

The Human Services Planner (Program Coordinator) is responsible for the planning and coordinating of several initiatives within the Department of Human Services. Primary responsibilities include grant writing, developing community metrics, data collection and reporting for the Department of Juvenile Justice, Homeless Management Information System, and the City’s Clearpoint reporting system. This position also analyzes data that informs service delivery, program evaluation, and planning; conducts research on best practice programming; and facilitates community meetings. Position serves as a consultant to management on the effectiveness and/or productivity of the program operations and administration. Primarily and most frequently the work done here is performed independently, with diverse functional areas and more specialization and ability to train others.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least three (3) years of experience in related field or occupation.
  • Any combination of education or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in business administration, information technology, communications, or other fields relevant to area in which assigned. (Minimally, possession of high school diploma or GED is required, and one and a half years of relevant work experience may be substituted for each year of the required higher education.)

The salary will be between $47,191.51 and $71,872 annually. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This is a full-time, exempt, position.
