About LEAP:
Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) is a nonprofit dedicated to promoting energy efficiency and sustainability across local communities. Our mission is to reduce energy consumption, promote renewable energy, and provide affordable energy-saving solutions to Virginians. We work closely with local governments, utility providers, and individuals to make energy efficiency accessible for all.
Job Overview:
The Human Resources & Benefits Manager will play a crucial role in supporting LEAP’s growing team and ensuring that HR processes run smoothly. The Manager will be responsible for recruitment, employee onboarding, annual reviews, employee training, benefits administration, compliance and all other HR and benefit needs for LEAP. This position reports directly to the Operations Director. This role is a blend of administrative and strategic support, offering a chance to help build a great work culture at LEAP.
Job Duties
1. Recruitment & Onboarding:
o Assist in the full-cycle recruitment process, including posting job openings, screening resumes, coordinating interviews, and sending offer letters.
o Coordinate and facilitate employee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a smooth integration of new hires.
o Conduct background checks and employment verifications.
o Responsible for offboarding and the voluntary/non-voluntary termination process
2. Employee Relations:
o Be the first point of contact for employee inquiries related to HR policies, benefits, and payroll.
o Assist in resolving employee concerns or grievances in a timely and professional manner.
o Support employee engagement initiatives to help foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
3. Benefits Administration:
o Administer employee benefits programs: including health insurance, open enrollment, employer retirement plan, group policy insurance, and work with the Operations Manager to manage other employee perks.
o Maintain and update employee records, ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality.
o Point of contact for all HR & benefits related vendors. Work with these vendors to improve rates as much as possible
4. Compliance & Reporting:
o Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
o Assist in preparing HR reports, such as employee turnover, retention, and diversity metrics.
o Maintain employee handbooks and ensure updates to policies are communicated effectively.
o Setting up trainings, tracking progress and renewal dates of staff certifications.
5. HR Strategy & Culture:
o Implement strategies related to employee performance, development, and retention.
o Improve processes by utilizing the Monday.com and other LEAP approved software.
o Assist in organizing team-building events, training, and wellness programs to encourage professional growth and a positive workplace culture.
o Responsible for LEAP having a presence at career, job, and volunteer fairs
o Contribute to the development of diversity and inclusion initiatives within the organization.
Skills Required
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience: 4+ years of HR experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
• Skills:
o Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
o Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
o Excellent software, database management and Microsoft Office Suite skills.
o Familiarity with employment laws and regulations.
o Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
o Self-starter that employs efficient and creative solutions
o Familiar with Monday.com and Payentry a plus
Work Schedule
Hybrid Job Type: Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
