The International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives.  At work today in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities In the U.S., the IRC restores safety, dignity, and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure.  In the U.S., the IRC supports newly arrived refugees admitted to the United States by providing initial basic support and an expanding array of extended services through a network of staff members and volunteers, enabling refugees to establish new lives and become self-sufficient, productive citizens. 

IRC’s Resettlement and Integration Technical Assistance Projects (RITA and EURITA), provide support to emerging resettlement countries in developing improved integration strategies and tools based on U.S. best practices.

Reporting to RITA Project Director, the Graphic Designer/Product Specialist provides design and product development services to support IRC resettlement and integration technical assistance projects. S/he has responsibility for developing a range of engaging print and web materials for limited English speaking global audience; and works closely with team members to ensure that spirit and consistency of messaging is achieved.

Job Duties

  • Develop and refine RITA/EURITA project brand;
  • Design product templates, infographics, and data visualization materials;
  • Design and produce presentation materials for workshops, webinars, and external relations needs;
  • Design lesson plan templates and other instructional materials that promote consistency;
  • Adapt existing products and presentations to be consistent with project brand;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.                                                        

Skills Required

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field required, advanced degree a plus;
  • Minimum 2 years work experience in graphic design; portfolio or samples of work demonstrating strong visual design skills and innovative approach;
  • Layout and design, infographics, and data visualization skills;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite or similar platforms;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills: the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and partners;
  • Solid computer skills: facility with Microsoft Office, email/internet;
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines;
  • The ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced team environment;
  • Related skills such as illustration, copy editing, and interactive design are a plus;
  • Spanish language literacy a plus.

Work Schedule

Standard office environment at IRC’s RITA office in Charlottesville; Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with occasional evening or weekend activities as needed.  Limited flexible workplace available with approval.
