Description

The College Foundation of the University of Virginia, which exists to support the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, is conducting a search for a Graphic Designer for a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal.

 

Working under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Creative Services, with guidance from the Vice President of Administration and the Director of Communications, the incumbent handles graphic design and production of many print and electronic communications for the Arts & Sciences Development Office and the Office of the Dean.

 

The incumbent may work independently to prioritize his or her own work. The incumbent should seek information from internal clients and guidance from the Assistant Director of Creative Services before design and production work begins.

 

Skills Required

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Design and produce print and electronic communications

 

Assists Assistant Director of Creative Services with production of print and electronic fundraising solicitations, publications, and other communications for the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

  1. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Creative Services, performs graphic design and production work for print and electronic communications that support Development and the Office of the Dean. Typical tasks include creating versioned files of segmented direct mail and email projects, editing existing projects, and preparing files for printers and other external vendors.
  2. Negotiates fees for services by certain vendors (printers, photographers, etc.), manages their work, and monitors their performance.
  3. Under the guidance of the Assistant Director of Creative Services, works directly with internal clients to develop and produce assigned projects; establish and manage production schedules; and build and monitor budgets—with an emphasis on supporting gift officers and the stewardship and events staff.
  4. Creates and releases assigned mass email and social media communications via the U.Va. broadcast email system and the College’s social media accounts.
  5. Provides presentation support for College Foundation board meetings and events.

 

Support overall communications strategy development

 

Assists Assistant Director of Creative Services in communications strategy development and ensuring consistency of visual identity across the range print and electronic communications produced by the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.

  1. Follows guidelines established by the Assistant Director of Creative Services to ensure consistency in presentation of the visual identity of the school.
  2. Actively supports large-scale marketing campaign development and strategy efforts of the Arts & Sciences Development Office.
  3. Works with internal clients on long-range communications production planning, with an emphasis on supporting gift officers, and the stewardship and events staff.
  4. Supports activities such as give days, reunions, campaign kick-offs, thank-a-thons, student fundraising events, and board meetings.

 

Qualifications:

 

The strongest candidates will have excellent graphic design skills in addition to strong written and verbal communication skills. Two years of design, communication, marketing or related experience is required. In-depth knowledge of design software (Adobe Creative Suite), the Microsoft Office suite and strong computer skills are essential. Experience with HTML, video production, and creating animated presentations in PowerPoint and Keynote is a plus and experience working in fundraising and higher education is highly desirable. A bachelor’s degree is preferred, however, a high school diploma or equivalent plus significant related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Salary and Benefits:

 

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Creative Services. The anticipated hiring range is $35,000 to $45,000. The position is eligible for benefits and is available as a one-year, term-limited appointment through June 30, 2017, with strong possibility of annual renewal based on performance and available funding. The College Foundation offers a generous benefits plan including full health insurance coverage for employees and a 403(b) retirement plan.
