The preferred hiring amount is between $50,551.55 to $67,243.45 annually. Starting offer is based on applicable education, experience, and internal equity. This position performs responsible, professional, and administrative work involving development and administration of grant programs to city departments, agencies and offices by request. The position will identify, define and develop funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as support the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies. Position responsibilities also include but are not limited to preparation of proposals and grant applications; researching, identifying, and responding to public and private grant opportunities in areas that support City of Charlottesville’s programs; and supporting the collection, analysis, tracking, monitoring, and reporting data on the performance of program activities.

Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Grants Program Manager. Supervision may be exercised over subordinate technical and clerical personnel. Primarily and most frequently the work done here is performed independently, with diverse functional areas and more specialization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Policy Studies, Finance, Urban Planning, Accounting or closely related field. (Minimally, a High School diploma or GED equivalency plus additional relevant work experience required).
  • Requires a minimum of two (2) years of experience in grant writing, grant administration, grant planning, or similar area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience demonstrating a record of securing new funding opportunities preferred.
  • Grant Writing experience or Grant Management Certification a plus.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license by employment start date preferred.
  • Preference for previous experience soliciting and managing federal and state grant programs and federal program compliance such as: Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)/HOME planning and administration, Section 3, Davis-Bacon Act, and NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act).
