Generation180 is a national non-profit organization based in Charlottesville, VA. We inspire and equip individuals to take action on clean energy. We create opportunities for new voices to be heard as clean energy advocates and invest in their growth as leaders.

Momentum for clean energy and climate action is at a high point and growing, putting us on the verge of a cultural and economic shift away from fossil fuels toward a cleaner, healthier, more equitable future for everyone. Generation180 works to accelerate this shift by providing individuals with clear pathways to action and popularizing a new narrative of agency and hope.
Generation180 runs scalable campaigns using creative communication and organizing strategies rooted in behavioral science that inspire people to act. Current campaigns include: 1.Electrify Your Life educates consumers, policymakers, and the media about home electrification- including electric vehicles (EVs)- and equips enthusiasts to be ambassadors. 2. Electrify Our Schools empowers schools to become resiliency hubs through electrification of their transportation and buildings, all powered with clean energy. 3. Flip The Script deploys creative communications and cultural strategies across a variety of platforms telling motivating, compelling clean energy stories.

The Communications Fellow will have a direct impact in helping to grow a nationwide movement of individuals, communities and schools switching to clean energy and play a role in all facets of communications work including working with national media, social media engagement, and creative cultural campaigns. The Communications Fellow will collaborate with our award-winning team on national and state-level initiatives to work towards our vision of solar for all schools, electrification of homes and vehicles, and a just, sustainable clean energy transition. This is a one-year fellowship with the potential to renew or extend the position based on funding availability.

Job Duties

Working closely with our communications team, you will play a key role in advancing Generation180’s clean energy programs and initiatives.
Depending on your interest areas and skills, your role may include strategic planning, project management, content creation, social media engagement, digital ad support and SEO, media outreach, and other communications support.
More specific responsibilities would include:
Media relations, e.g., developing media lists, pitching story ideas to the media, media monitoring and social listening to identify target outlets and reporters, and analyzing media coverage.
Email + Social Media Marketing, e.g., developing digital content such as blogs, newsletters, emails, and social media posts; posting social media content across platforms; supporting email delivery and tracking analytics.
SEO efforts, including researching competitors, monitoring Generation180’s analytics platforms and generating analysis, reporting, and insights around our digital effort.
Additional communications support, such as research, event planning, as needed to advance Generation180’s mission.

Skills Required

Desired Qualifications
We are seeking a candidate with 1-2 years experience post-college (or equivalent internship experience) as well as a high degree of organization, attention to detail, and a positive, professional attitude. Key desired qualities include:
Relevant experience and coursework in any of the following fields: communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, and/or public affairs.
Strong written communication skills
Familiarity with social media platforms
Ability to be nimble and willingness to help out where needed
An eye for detail
Excellent collaboration skills, positive attitude, and a sense of humor
Passion for Generation180’s mission
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
High comfort level with using, or learning, basic office software including Google Drive, Slack, and project management software, like Monday.com

Work Schedule

This position can be based in Generation180’s Charlottesville headquarters with an in-office or hybrid work situation. This position can also be fully remote.
