The Children’s Museum is searching for Exhibits and Facilities Technician to help us achieve our mission of inspiring growth in all children by engaging families in learning through play. This is a full time position that reports to the Facilities and Exhibits Manager.

Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for construction, repair, and maintenance of exhibits and maintaining the buildings at our Downtown and Chesterfield locations. Responsibilities include: light electrical and plumbing maintenance, repair and maintenance of Museum exhibits, landscaping, cleaning, and other general labor support.

Job Duties

• Maintains and repairs exhibit components including assisting with daily safety or maintenance checks, as needed. Orders replacement parts of exhibits as needed, maintains records, tests new and repaired components, and helps install and de-install the museum’s changing exhibits
• Performs facility repair and daily maintenance of all facilities as needed; documents upgrades to the museum’s facility; communicates progress and updates directly with Facilities and Exhibits Manager
• Performs or oversees contracted care and maintenance for all facilities
• Set up, install and breakdown offsite events, in-house events, sound systems, décor, tents, stages, and lighting
• Other duties as assigned

Skills Required

Competencies:
Candidates should have a demonstrable passion for the mission and work of the Museum and a strong desire to make a difference in their community. Successful candidates will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Candidates should have excellent problem solving abilities.

Skills and Abilities:
Experience in light construction or other trade and two or more years in a general labor role is required. Experience with HVAC, electrical, or plumbing work is highly desired. Experience working with Museum exhibits or theatrical sets is preferred.

Candidates should have a valid unrestricted driver’s license with clean driving record and the ability to pass a background check. This position requires extensive walking, standing, heavy lifting, and occasional use of tools. Occasional night or weekend hours may be required.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday 8-4 or 9-5, depending. Some weekends as needed.
