Position Title: Executive Director
Organization: Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge
Reports To: Board of Directors
Hours/Days: Full-Time Exempt
Location: Charlottesville, VA

Salary: $80,000 – $100,000
JOB PURPOSE
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge (BBBS) is seeking a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to provide leadership and strategic direction to the organization. The Executive Director will collaborate with the Board of Directors, the agency’s Leadership Team, and other stakeholders to shape and execute a vision for the organization’s growth and impact. The Executive Director will oversee the implementation of BBBS’s fiscal, fundraising and development, marketing and communications, human resources, and operational strategies, while also serving as a trusted thought partner to the Board of Directors.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Preferred from an accredited college/university in a related field
Skills and Knowledge:
- 8 or more years of related experience.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit organizations, preferably in youth-serving, community-serving, or educational sectors.
- Strong commitment to the values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Excellent listening, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proven track record in strategic planning, program development, and project management.
- Experience in team building and fostering a healthy work environment focused on team-oriented collaboration.
- Comfortable with public speaking and media interviews
- A spirit of collaboration that fosters positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- A high degree of integrity, initiative, and resilience
- A commitment to the mission and values of Big Brothers Big Sisters and a passion for youth engagement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic/Business Planning and Execution:
- Develop and drive the strategic/business plan of the organization within the context of the nationwide strategic direction.
- Collaborate with the Board and staff to set performance metrics and quality indicators for operational decision-making.
Fund Development:
- Instill a culture of philanthropic giving in the agency, supported by public messaging.
- Ensure the organization develops strong, long-term relationships with individuals, foundations, and corporate donors/funders.
- Personally build and maintain key relationships to ensure fund development strategy is achieved.
Board Development and Support:
- In partnership with the current board, cultivate a strong Board of Directors willing to lead and contribute to the fund development success of the organization.
- Participate in the identification and recruitment of new Board members to reflect the diversity of the community served.
- Ensure independent governance oversight and performance accountability of the board and the Executive Director.
Talent Management:
- Attract, retain, develop, and leverage staff talent necessary to support the strategic/business plan.
- Recruit and retain qualified diverse talent, creating a culture of inclusiveness.
- Establish an effective performance management system for all employees.
Financial Management:
- In partnership with the Deputy Director, oversee financial management and develop plans to maximize the agency’s financial strength.
- Ensure fiscal controls and procedures are in place for transparency and accountability.
- Manage key performance levers.
Program Impact:
- Develop marketing and engagement strategies to attract, engage, and mobilize volunteer mentors that reflect the community served.
- Establish operational benchmarks, and timelines, and prioritize child safety.
External Relations:
- Represent Big Brothers Big Sisters at external events and with the media.
- Build strong external relations to promote BBBS’s mission and enhance the brand.
- Positively influence partners, the media, and public policies to generate volunteers, donors, and other resources.
