About the job:
MACAA seeks a visionary, relationship-driven Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact. The Executive Director will execute MACAA’s strategic vision, lead operations, and develop programs and staff. They will be instrumental in ensuring programmatic excellence, consistent quality of finance and people operations, strong marketing and fundraising, and the enhancement of community partnerships.
This role requires strong commitment to quality programs and results-oriented management and accountability. The Executive Director must be skilled in nonprofit organizational leadership and possess the ability to manage and develop high-performing teams. The Executive Director will instill and uphold organizational values, treat people with respect, keep commitments, and inspire the trust of others. The Executive Director reports directly and is accountable to MACAA’s Board of Directors. Preference will be given to applications received by early June. Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA) was established in 1965 to respond to poverty in Central Virginia. As a community-integrated nonprofit, we have enabled thousands of people to overcome barriers and achieve self-sufficiency. Our programs provide essential services to children, teens, and adults in our communities. We serve the City of Charlottesville and the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Nelson, and Louisa. Job Duties
– Effectively partners with the Board of Directors and staff to ensure MACAA’s mission is fulfilled through programs and community outreach.
– Directs and coordinates the operations and major initiatives of MACAA to provide services that will improve the lives of those living in poverty in the service area.
– Engages in needs assessment activities of the service area’s low-income populations on an ongoing basis and makes recommendations to the Board regarding the development and adjustment of programs and services to effectively respond to those needs.
– Ensures effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
– Maintains a strong culture of accountability for MACAA’s workforce that attracts and retains people while driving our mission. Ensures that staff morale and productivity are maintained at a high level.
– Identifies and addresses staffing requirements for efficient operations. Establishes organizational composition, staffing goals, and recruitment strategies.
– Oversees the design and implementation of staff development and training programs that cultivate highly skilled and productive teams.
– Builds an effective team of leaders by providing guidance and coaching to subordinate directors, managers, and staff.
– Manages the budget to achieve strategic objectives. Administers the budget in consultation with department/program directors to allocate funds, control costs, and maintain operations in compliance with funding requirements.
– Ensures maximum use of resources and maintains the organization in a positive financial position.
– Leads direct and indirect fundraising and supervises grant writing.
– Serves as the face of MACAA and a leading community advocate for anti-poverty efforts. – – Increases MACAA’s visibility, credibility, and market brand, and develops strategic partnerships to further increase community awareness and expand programs.
– Builds partnerships with other community organizations and individuals to focus and leverage resources for anti-poverty efforts in MACAA’s service area.
Skills Required
Minimum:
– Degree in nonprofit management, business administration, public administration, or related field.
– 5+ years of experience in senior management of nonprofit organizations.
– Experience in managing organizational budgets.
– Experience in fundraising, marketing, and/or public relations, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures.
– Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
– Demonstrated ability to think strategically, develop and execute plans, and achieve desired outcomes on time.
– Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, task facilitation, and evaluation.
– Strong written and oral communication skills and public speaking ability.
Strongly preferred:
– Track record of effectively leading a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff.
– Knowledge of leadership and management principles for nonprofits.
– Proven success in working with a Board of Directors.
Nice-to-have:
– Experience in Community Action or community-centered work.
– Experience implementing trauma-informed services and care.
Work Schedule
Full time, Monday through Friday. Periodic evenings and weekends are required for meetings, events, or community engagement.
Work location: Main office in Charlottesville, with regular travel within service area.

Special requirements:
– Must pass background checks.
– Must have reliable, independent transportation. Travel between localities based on the needs of MACAA programs will be required. Mileage reimbursement is available for travel to/from sites outside of the position’s assigned work location(s).
