English Language Learner (ELL) Site Supervisor

The English Language Learner (ELL) Site Supervisor will report to the Director of Operations at International Neighbors.

Job Overview

The English Language Learner (ELL) Site Supervisor is a part-time (24 hrs/week) grant-funded position.  The position will supervise two staff who are guiding small groups of ELL children in grades K-4 in virtual public education.  The Site Supervisor will troubleshoot issues of transportation, internet and technology access, and cultural and language barriers for refugee and immigrant families.  They will also serve as a point person for International Neighbors volunteers and donors interested in helping refugee and immigrant families access public education. Hours are flexible, but must meet the needs of participants and staff.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage grant funds with integrity
  • Provide supervision and support to two or three staff members. Provide constructive feedback, mentorship and discipline as needed.
  • Keep the site where pods are meeting clean
  • Communicate with the church who owns the site
  • Keep track of children and their struggles and successes
  • Organize and monitor progress
  • Troubleshoot issues of transportation, internet and technology access, and cultural and language barriers for refugee and immigrant families
  • Communicate ongoing topics to Director of Operations, Executive Director and Communications Director
  • Interact with and encourage volunteers and donors
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in the virtual education model provided by Charlottesville City Schools and CDC regulations on COVID-19 and education

Qualifications

  • Education level: College degree preferred.
  • Experience: At least a year’s experience working with immigrant and refugee families or people of diverse backgrounds.  Some knowledge of education and child development. 
  • Specific skills: Knowledge of Google Docs, basic budgeting, reflective listening
  • Personal characteristics: Dependable, honest, adaptable, flexible, empathetic, good listener, inclusive and focused on equity
