Description

Madison House is excited to offer recent graduates and emerging leaders the opportunity to deeply engage with education and youth initiatives (volunteer programs and community partners) in the Charlottesville community. Madison House is an independent, non-profit organization and serves as the volunteer center for students at the University of Virginia. Madison House supports the work of 20+ student leaders (Head Program Directors) and 200+ student Program Directors who in turn coordinate 3,000 student volunteers; almost 1/3 of these student leaders and volunteers are engaged in local schools and/or with youth in our community. The Education and Youth Programs Fellow will be part of the Madison House Programs Team, supervised by the Director of Community Engagement.

Job Duties

  • Manage and advise programs in education and youth settings

  • Oversee delivery of quality service to youth and schools in Charlottesville through supporting and developing community and institutional partnerships

  • Provide leadership development and volunteer management training for the student leaders who coordinate youth and education volunteer placements

  • Support community-engaged learning initiatives

  • Other duties relating to education and youth programs as assigned

Skills Required

  • Applicants to this fellowship position must have a Bachelor’s degree by the start of the fellowship (June, 2020)

  • Academic experience within social services, education, management, or related field; however, applicants who have experience working with youth and in school settings are encourage to apply regardless of discipline

  • Experience with organizing events and programs, one-one-one advising, group facilitation, problem-solving, decision-making, training facilitation, and public speaking

  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently

  • Ability to effectively work with undergraduate students, manage programs and events, and collaborate with community and university members

  • Demonstrates an understanding or school and youth context, preferably in the Charlottesville area

  • Professional attitude and appearance

  • Strong attention to detail, and excellent project management skills

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
