Description

This position will increase Madison House’s capacity to connect schools and community partners with well-trained, higher-skilled volunteers, as well as develop our capacity to centrally assess and evaluate programs, and to collaborate and partner with key stakeholders (such as the Virginia Equity Center and School of Education). An ideal candidate would be interested in helping our student leaders and volunteers understand more about local contexts and see themselves as part of a larger community, and would be excited about helping to channel our volunteers’ good intentions into potential solutions for community problems. 

Job Duties

Day-to-day responsibilities for this job would include:

  • consulting with community partners (especially schools) about their needs and how volunteers can help them meet those needs as well as meet equity goals
  • developing plans with student leaders based on those consultations
  • creating/modifying and leading trainings for education and youth volunteers
  • understanding, assisting with and helping implement assessment and evaluation plans
  • communicating with key stakeholders, including student leaders, community partners, and volunteers
  • supporting the development of a schools-based student leadership structure to complement and guide education and youth programs and allow them to grow and meet more community needs
  • supporting community-engaged learning initiatives 
  • managing and advising education and youth programs’ student leaders; providing leadership development for student leaders

Skills Required

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree + 3-5 years of experience in K-12 education or related field
    • Graduate work may be considered as relevant work experience  
    • Academic experience within social services, education, management, or related field; however, applicants who have experience working with youth and in school settings are encouraged to apply regardless of their discipline 
  • Demonstrated understanding of school and youth contexts in the Charlottesville/Albemarle area
  • Experience with assessment and evaluation of educational programs 
  • Expertise in creating and facilitating professional trainings and workshops 
  • Experience collaborating with educational institutions and stakeholders 
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work independently
  • Strong attention to detail, and excellent project management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Skills/Qualifications Preferred

  • Experience in community service, volunteer management, and leadership development
  • Demonstrated academic achievement and a record of commitment to community service
  • Motivated, self-directed, and demonstrated integrity of character
  • Highly developed interpersonal and writing skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and potential for continued leadership

Work Schedule

Full-time 9-5 M-F.  This position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends.
