Monticello Area Community Action Agency (MACAA) partners with individuals and families experiencing low income to promote economic empowerment, equitable access to healthcare and nutritional supports, and the education and development of the whole family. The opportunity:

MACAA is looking for an Early Head Start (EHS) Coordinator to join our Early/Head Start program’s Education team. The EHS Coordinator will lead the day-to-day operations of the EHS center-based and home-based programs and play a crucial role in creating high-quality birth to three programming. In this role, you will provide direct supervision for all EHS teaching staff and volunteers and ensure our program maintains compliance with VDSS licensing requirements for childcare centers and Head Start Program Performance Standards for EHS classrooms. You’ll monitor and analyze program data and outcomes to identify areas for improvement and determine program development goals.

Reporting to the Child Development & Education Manager and collaborating with team members in each Early/Head Start service area, you will help to strategize, manage, and implement a successful EHS program to deliver maximum value to the organization as a whole.

Job Duties

Your impact / You’ll:

  • Lead a team of EHS teachers and cultivate a positive, collaborative environment that promotes the success of teaching staff, students, and families.
  • Assist with planning, scheduling and facilitating professional development and training for your team.
  • Manage classroom monitoring for CLASS observations, curriculum fidelity, School Readiness Goals (SRGs), and ongoing compliance with VDSS licensing and Head Start Program Performance Standards.
  • Monitor Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG) to approve quarterly checkpoints and analyze child outcomes for evidence of progress toward goal attainment.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of required data is recorded in ChildPlus by your team.
  • Coordinate with other Early/Head Start teams (service areas) to confirm completion of annual screenings, provide/collect required documentation, coordinate playground schedules, and establish daily meal schedules.

Minimum qualifications

  • BA/BS in early childhood education, elementary education, or related field with demonstrated coursework in early childhood development.
  • 5+ years of early childhood care and education experience, with a minimum of 1 year in a supervisory role.
  • General knowledge and understanding of VDSS licensing standards.
  • Ability to obtain certifications in First Aid and CPR for infants and children, Medication Administration Training (MAT), Infant/Toddler CLASS-Certified Observer, Teaching Strategies GOLD reliability training, and Mandated Reporter training.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance.
  • Ability to provide a current physical exam/TB screening and pass background searches including criminal, sex offender, and child protective services.
  • Reliable home internet.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
  • Clear and concise communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical capabilities.

 

Preferred qualifications and skills

  • Experience working with children and families facing adverse conditions (Homelessness, food instability, incarceration, foster/kinship care, substance abuse, etc.)
  • Prior experience with ChildPlus as a user or administrator.
  • Bilingual, with oral and written proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred. Other language competencies are also encouraged to apply.

Work Schedule

MACAA continues to monitor federal, state and local guidance and vaccination progress in the region. While this position will interview remotely, this role will be expected to be local to the Charlottesville area and work a full in-person schedule.  We have implemented guidelines and procedures at our facilities to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and well-being of our team and community, including health screenings, physical distancing, the use of face coverings, and regular sanitizing and disinfecting.
