VPM, Virginia’s Home for Public Media, is seeking a Donor Relations Officer (DRO) for our Charlottesville and Shenandoah Valley markets. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial and an experienced donor relations professional able to connect leadership-level supporters with the knowledge and inspiration they seek. The Donor Relations Officer manages a caseload of 150 major donors to cultivate, engage, and solicit large gifts with an emphasis on donors living in Charlottesville, the Shenandoah Valley, and Richmond. Identifies where capacity and giving affinity are sufficient to support higher giving and stewards to encourage increased support. Manages stewardship events in the region.
The Donor Relations Officer role offers a competitive salary and generous benefits, works from home or the Charlottesville or Harrisonburg VPM office, and reports to the Vice President of Philanthropy.
Job Duties
-Manages individual donors through the gift cycle of qualification, cultivation, acknowledgment, and stewardship ensuring that donors are connected to the mission emphasizing what they value most; works continuously to increase annual and planned giving.
-Hosts donors at station for tours, luncheons, personal meetings, and events.
-Acts as a donor resource, staying current on multi-channel programming, station initiatives, and donor tools like Passport.
-Sends weekly email communication and responds to inquiries.
-Manages correspondence, renewals, upgrades, and invitations for client base; raises challenge match funding for pledge campaigns and coordinates with the Membership Director on direct mail solicitations throughout the year.
-Creates opportunities and events to engage donor base with programming.
-Performs research and analysis to determine wealth capacity and giving likelihood.
-Manages individual donor casework in CRM and pulls progress reports, as needed.
-Handles donor inquiries and represents their interests, responding promptly and appropriately.
-Follows up gifts with prompt personal contact and collects information on donor background and preferences for database and provides weekly activity report.
-Participates in membership campaigns, recording campaign spots when requested.
-Represents VPM in the community through professional associations and sponsorships.
Skills Required
-Passion for public media and its mission.
-College diploma, supplemented by 5 years of non-profit development experience.
-Demonstrated proficiency with Windows, Word, Excel, and CRM (Raiser’s Edge).
-Strong interpersonal skills, especially patience, diplomacy, optimism, and sensitivity
-Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
-Effective organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
-Ability to balance working as part of a dynamic team and working independently.
-Ability to manage and prioritize competing demands and deadlines.
-Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.
-Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrity.
-Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license.
