Description

The Charlottesville Area Community Foundation is seeking a Donor Relations Manager, Individuals and Family Giving, to provide stewardship and oversight of all the Community Foundation’s donor and committee advised funds. In line with overall donor relations strategies, the Donor Relations Manager realize opportunities to engage donors and advisors, and to leverage fund resources, in support of programs and activities organized by the Foundation, or in the wider community. They ensure that fund operations are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations and achieve best practice standards.

Job Duties

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Proactively manage relationships within the Foundation’s donor advised funds, providing advice and superior service that is consistent with Council on Foundations’ National Standards and align with the philanthropic goals of donors and advisors
  • Together with the Director of Advancement, develop and execute fundholder stewardship plans and processes that lead to deeper ties with donors in order to grow fundholder investment in the Community Foundation
  • Identify opportunities to connect donors’ philanthropic goals with the Foundation’s strategic priorities for serving the community
  • Identify and implement trends and best practices in donor engagement, stewardship, and management. Work with the Advancement team to establish and maintain an effective approach to stewardship that increases fundholder engagement
  • Work with Advancement Team to build capacity for delivering high quality service for current and future fundholders through review and evaluation of process, systems and tools
  • Work with the Advancement Team and others at the Foundation to plan and execute fundholder events that elevate the work and relationships with fundholders
  • Monitor the overall activity of existing funds, responding to inquiries from fundholders including timely action for contribution and distribution requests. Maintain accurate records.
  • Together with the Communications Manager, share philanthropic stories with our stakeholders through newsletters, annual reports and/or video projects
  • Establish new funds with donors
  • Work collaboratively to develop and implement the Foundation’s Donor Services Guidelines
  • Implement relevant areas of strategic plan, assess results, and adjust as necessary
  • Perform other duties related to resource development as needed

Skills Required

The ideal candidate possesses strong customer service orientation and an ability to make people feel at ease. They will be a friendly, active listener who is eager to engage with people from various backgrounds. They will convey a high degree of commitment and passion for mission of the Community Foundation and will possess strong oral and written communication skills. They have strong values around equity, diversity, and inclusion, and they are eager to join an organization that is actively working to operationalize these values. They will address a wide range of questions and provide guidance to help donors fulfill their philanthropic goals and interests. Five years or more of experience working in a professional environment is required.
