The City of Charlottesville is underway with a paradigm shift in the way that it provides services to its diverse population. Recent retirements, natural attrition and newly created positions of several key leadership posts have positioned the City to be able to make a major organizational culture change in serving our community and meeting the contemporary needs of our governmental staff. The City of Charlottesville is currently recruiting leaders to fill these positions.
The Director of Social Services will perform complex professional and administrative work in directing the activities of the Social Services function of the City. The Director of Social Services is appointed by the City Manager and serves as a senior member of the City Manager’s leadership team. The Charlottesville Department of Social Services is one of 120 local departments in Virginia’s state-supervised, locally-administered public social services system. The Department is an agency of city government which administers federal, state, and local public assistance and family service programs.
Skills Required
Minimum Requirements:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college university with a degree in social welfare administration or related field.
- At least eight to ten years of increasing responsible administrative management experience in a social services agency.
