Description
Camp Holiday Trails (CHT), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit camp for children with medical needs, works year-round in the Mid-Atlantic region and seeks an experienced and driven Director of Philanthropy. Reporting to and collaborating with the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Philanthropy will be responsible for leading all aspects of fundraising for CHT, including the Annual Fund and special projects (initially foundations/grant writing will be under the auspices of the ED. Existing fundraising activities currently raise approximately $700K annually and will need to surpass $1.5M to meet our 3-year vision of doubling the number of campers attending CHT from c. 300 to 600. This person will also have the opportunity to recruit a Director of Annual Giving. This is a chance to make a transformative contribution to the future of Camp Holiday Trails!
Job Duties
• Create an aggressive major donor ($10K and above giving level) and corporate development plan, with a focus on expanding CHT’s reach beyond Charlottesville and Albemarle County.
• Identify and build a prospect pipeline to include individuals and corporate partners.
• Actively find connections and reach out to build new relationships with potential donors.
• Think creatively about ways to leverage aligned third party institutions such as schools, churches, local/regional businesses, and medical facilities.
• Manage development calendar, and design efficient use of ED/Board interactions with existing and potential donor sources.
• Stay connected with CHT programs and outreach so that the story of CHT and its impact on campers, siblings and parents can stay fresh and be effectively communicated to donors.
• Recruit and oversee staff responsible for Annual Giving/Events activities.
• Work closely with the Board, and specifically the Funds Committee, to leverage contacts and pursue annual goals.
• Support future Capital Campaigns for additional Building and Campership Funds.
Skills Required
The ideal candidate must have a passion for the mission, a history of successful fundraising, and the ability to develop and execute a strategic development plan. The individual must be outgoing, creative, goal-oriented, and organized along with being comfortable in a small, nonprofit team environment. The expectation is for the Director of Philanthropy to spend 50% of each week in meetings with current and prospective donors.
Our CRM is Bloomerang and will be used for relationship management, and DonorSearch will be used to inform meetings and track progress.
Work Schedule
We will work with you to establish a work schedule that matches your optimal work flow … that said, we anticipate this role to be out of the office a min. of 50% of the week in donor cultivation and prospecting meetings – spreading the Camp Magic widely!
