The Living Earth School is a mission driven organization founded in 2002. We are a recognized leader in outdoor education for both adults and children, operating in the Charlottesville, VA area. We build resilience, hope and inspired action in community through powerful, connective nature experiences in Virginia and beyond. In the coming year we intend to transition into a non-profit organization.

Job Title: Director of Operations

Date: 2020 and beyond
Direct Supervisor: Executive Director

General Purpose:

LES is in a place where we need some great leadership to manage the organization and its growth. We are looking for someone to come in, tighten existing operations and help lead the orgs future. We are wanting to transition to a non-profit to allow us to serve the real diversity of our community. Diversity and equity must be a priority for this individual, as well as a love for nature. In the nearer future some of this job will be delegated to new hires to support this role.

Job Duties

Responsibilities: 

● Be a vocal leader for LES, supporting the administrative and program staff to work fluidly, and achieve excellence.
● Keep the org up to date with the most efficient processes in technology and operations
● Recruit, Interview, hire and oversee staff
● Make sure our policies and procedures fit the best interest of the org and the people we serve and make adjustments where needed.
● Streamline marketing and communications
● Help develop and manage the fiscal budget for programs/organization
● Over see current year round programming with the heaviest load in the summer. We have a rich staff culture that is mission driven, full of under utilized talents that we want to help shine. This position will help maintain the current scope of serving thousands of adults and youth every year as well as create new opportunities in response to the community’s needs.
● Help with the transition to a non-profit and help raise money to support its needs.
● Champion LES as an org in the community, spearhead new programs and collaborations
● Coordinate the seasonal calendars, time management and staff for the programs

Skills Required

Required Experience/Competencies: 

● Most important is experience leading others, how an org operates, and skill to take it to another level.
● Management experience (2-5 yrs.)
● Non-profit experience a plus
● Strong multi-tasking, communication and organization skills
● Customer service skills
● Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
● Ability to work independently
