Tandem Friends School is a co-educational, independent day school for grades 5-12 with a diverse enrollment of 224 students. The school is located on a 31-acre campus in Charlottesville, Virginia. We are currently seeking a Director of Finance and Operations who will be responsible for the overall performance of the accounting, finance, and IT departments, human resources, and the preservation of the building and grounds. In addition to managing the staff that will perform all of the tasks involved in maintaining the high standards of Tandem Friends, the director must also be a hands-on part of the team.

Qualifications required:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Five years’ senior-level management experience
• High level of knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
• Knowledge of federal and state regulations regarding employment of staff, including but not limited to workplace safety (OSHA), discriminatory practices (age, race, disability, etc.), wage practices
• Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to the knowledge of an accounting software program, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Qualifications desired:

• Experience as a senior-level employee in an independent school or non-profit environment
• Knowledge of federal and state regulations affecting independent schools
