Description

We are seeking the next Director of Finance for our client, The Rappahannock Tribe in St. Stephens Church, VA. This position plays a critical role as part of the senior management team and is responsible for all accounting and finance operations of the Tribe. If selected, you will manage a small staff; produce multiple scheduled financial reports; and transition to and maintain the new MIP system of accounting records. While building a robust accounting function, you will develop a comprehensive set of internal controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the Tribe’s reported financial results, and ensure that all financial records are in compliance with OMB Title 2 , CFR Part 200, Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards. The next few years will be exciting as you and the leadership committee embark on an aggressive strategic plan to create and develop significant revenue streams. The successful candidate will also thoughtfully oversee grants, distributions, bank reporting and all levels of government reporting. The Tribe is designated as a Tribal Government Entity.

Job Duties

Coordinate and prepare for all audits.
Manage all accounting and reporting related to the Tribe, grants and donations.
Prepare and file required annual forms and reports.
Implement best practices and tools to mitigate risks to the Tribe’s assets.
Prepare and file reports required by federal, state and local government agencies, insurance provider, taxes and others.
Prepare quarterly reports to assist in monitoring revenue and expenses of the organization.
Ensure A/R and A/P are in order and timely; back up for payroll processing.
Maintain the chart of accounts and fund transactions appropriately.
Lead the annual budget and forecasting process.
Maintain monthly reporting to the Council; audit partners; operations and the compliance team as required.
Ensure monthly bank accounts are reconciled; required debt payments are made.
Manage the accounting staff in a collaborative effective manner.
Identify opportunities for improvement through process and system enhancements.
Manage outsourced functions and contracts.
Provide financial analysis as needed for capital investments, pricing decisions and contract negotiations.
Other assigned duties or special projects as assigned by Chief, Administrator or Council.
Slight travel requirements for this position.

Skills Required

Possess a team oriented leadership style.
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration or related area.
Master’s degree or MBA a plus.
CPA preferred.
Seven – ten years of progressive experience in an executive position performing Government Fund Accounting or a non-profit organization utilizing government funds.
Experience in non-profit and / or fund accounting.
Proficiency in accounting software programs (e.g., QuickBooks and MIP); MS Office with an in-depth knowledge of Excel.
Detail-oriented, highly organized, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Represent the organization in a professional manner to all employees, vendors, the community and citizenship.
Dedication to the highest level of professionalism, honor and integrity.
Successfully complete pre-employment background screening.
